This week feels like it is going to be a big one, not only will the first month of the year be over but I would have handed in half of my work for my final year of University!! So I want to recap the month musically as I said I would. I did make a playlist but it is mixed with my December choices as I have started doing them bimonthly, but I thought I would share my top 5 songs of the month.
1 - The Album Leaf - Descent - I have been doing a lot of essay writing this month and I don't work so well in complete silence. I discovered The Album Leaf on a spotify playlist last month sometime and I haven't stopped listening to him. He is mostly instrumental electronic poppy synthy stuff, so not too heavy on vocals which I found was really good for concentrating on work but not being in silence. It is soothing.
2 - Jake Bugg - Slumville Sunrise - I was such a big fan of his earlier work and I had just drifted off somewhere around the release of his second album and I really haven't given it a proper listen as of yet. This track, however, as soon as I heard it was humming and singing along by the second chorus. Bugg never seems to fail at writing a catchy chorus.
3 - Incubus - A Certain Shade Of Green - One of my Saturday nights out a few weeks back I went out with my guy friends, they took me to a heavy rock night that I had never been to. It was so fun and the drinks were so cheap for a Saturday night, but they also introduced me to Incubus. One of those names I knew but had never heard anything by. After hearing this track I was hooked though and have definitely been making my way through their back catalogue.
4 - Clean Bandit - Rather Be - In the last few months I have got back into my love of dance music and anything generally more poppy and upbeat. I had been in a spiral of folky acoustic bands for several months and it feels good to have a totally random mix of eclectic tracks again. I really wish I had gone to see Clean Bandit earlier this year in BTown, the gig was only £6 as well I was just too indecisive.
5 - Sampha - Too Much - I heard this on the radio a few days back and it is just one of those songs that you want to give your full attention to. It makes you stop what you are doing and just listen. His voice is so beautiful I really can't wait to hear some more from this guy.
I have had a busy and stressful month and a mix of music to attach to it. I have started a couple of projects that I am really excited about but unfortunately it is too early to talk about them on here. I see this being a truly creative year for me and I am so up for it. I signed myself up to give blood in March because I am finally over 4 months shy of piercings and tattoos, for the first time since I was 18, so time to do some good.
Under The Bridge - Red Hot Chilli Peppers
