So BBC3?

News of the day then, BBC 3 will be closing down as of 2015. Are we distraught? My facebook feed seems to be going crazy with 'How can they do this?' 'What about Family Guy?' and hashtags of #SaveBBC3. Personally I think BBC3 is one of the most terrible channels available. It plays host to an array of hideous British comedies and documentaries that you almost think sound like a good idea, but the realities of them are not so hot.I am talking 'Freaky Eaters' and 'Spendaholics' shows that just wind me up really,  as well as playing endless reruns of shows such as Family Guy and American Dad. Surely we can watch those elsewhere right?

The thing is BBC3 has won 4 BAFTA's in the last 2 years for some great programmes, but the people I have been checking up on social networking sites have not been talking about making more shows like 'Our War' or 'The Fades' they want another series of 'Sun, sex and suspicios parents' and more Family Guy...seriously just go buy the boxset.

Don't get me wrong, since 2003 BBC3 has been known to shed light on a few total jems including 'Being Human' but sharing screen time with the likes of shows such as 'Pramface' and 'Sweat The Small Stuff' are we really going to be missing out on those? In notes to the Editors BBC3 was launched under the proposal that is would close in autumn 2015 and be replaced by an online service, so why are we just hearing about this now?

So what are the BBC getting out of this? Well if approved, it will save the BBC 50million pounds. That is insane, lets just hope that put that to good use. Apparently it also means there is some mroe time freed up for CBBC, only an hour...but I won't argue with an hours more of childrens television. As much as BBC3 appears to be the home of my beloved Russel Kane, I am pro closure of BBC3. This could be a big step forward for the BBC and perhaps they can invest that money into some decent programming and documentaries.
