It is the 1st of June ( I decided to jump on this one as quick as I could) I am determined to write this blog post once a month - music is important! Okay so the last few works have been ridiculous, sleepless nights, late library sessions but it is final, it is done - I have submitted my dissertation and therefore my last piece of University work. It has been an incredible 3 years (no doubt a post will follow) and a hectic last month - so here are some tunes that have been getting me through!
This Will Destroy You - Threads - A truly beautiful band, a friend mentioned them a while back and I had forgotten about them. They have some incredible instrumental stuff which I find is perfect for trying to work - heads up some of it can make you a little sleepy (this is feedback I have had from others I have recommended these guys too) but I found no issues, they are totally blissful, plus they announced a show in Btown for September so I am all over that - no festivals this year for me means more little gigs!
Royal Blood - Out of The Black - Definitely missed out on seeing these guys at The Great Escape festival in Btown this year (which I helped out in) but some friends caught their show and were totally blown away. These guys can seriously write a tune or two, if you like punchy guitar riffs and aggressive melodies....these guys, seriously.
Box of Light - Falling - Such a refreshing sound and totally summery, has kept me motivated on days when the weather has decided to perk up and I have been inside doing work. Fronted by one of my favourite Youtubers, Helen MelenLady, I really can't wait to catch these guys at a live show (having seen some footage online they look like fun times).
Twin Atlantic - Heart and Soul - Anyone that knows me, knows that I am a sucker for a Scottish accent, and so it makes sense for me to be a fan of Twin Atlantic. I have loved them for years and after hearing rumours of a new album and finding this gem (along with 'I am an animal') I have a feeling this new album is going to be truly awesome. It is always so worrying when you love an album so much you assume the next one the band releases can't compete....I think I will be okay here.
The Front Bottoms - Funny You Should Ask - Have been a little bit in love with this band for a good year or so; I was very frustrated last year when I had to give up tickets twice to go and see them...but in the past week they have announced (and of course I have purchased) tickets to see these New Jersey lads in Btown. (For £8 as well...I am going to have the best time ever) Honestly if you like pop-punk and haven't given these guys a listen please do, brilliantly catchy classic lines and beats you will be drumming along to for days!
Lana Del Rey - West Coast
