Can You Take This Broken Boy?

This is something I am yet to have a rant about, and to be honest I am quite sick of the sight of Ian Watkins. Like many other girls my age with similar interests and music taste, Lostprophets were one of my favourite bands as a young teenager. Ian Watkins was somewhat of an idol and me and friends were known to dribble over his images in Kerrang. Things have changed and since Liberation Transmission I had stopped listening, I wasn't interested any more and I wasn't enjoying their music. When hearing the news that Ian Watkins had been taken in over rumours of child abuse, almost a year ago, I was most shocked, finding out a childhood hero of yours is actually a hideous human being is rather devastating.

At first I didn't want to comment on the matter, just that this whole Jimmy Saville esq celebrities in crime, it frustrates me. The coverage they get in comparison to other monsters out there and this collapse in genre in celebrity news and hard news; I am actually writing an essay for one of my modules at university this year on it. One thing I was shocked at was that HMV had taken all of Lostprophets music off the shelves of their stores, disagree with me but I find it hardly fair that the rest of the band suffer loss when the only person that should be brought to justice is Watkins himself.

As I write this, I have been reading the live updates of the trial from the Wales Online site and have just found out that Ian Watkins will be jailed for 29 years. Is that really enough? Sentencing and jail time have always puzzled me, It turns out he will have to serve two thirds of his sentence before he can be considered for release. In my opinion he shouldn't be released. Anyone with these sick intentions has that coded in their mind and no amount of time spent alone in a cell will change that.
