Vlogging.

This is going to be a lot of information all at once, but I figured if I put this all on one post it will be easier to refer back to. So as some of you may know I am in the middle of campaigning in the Student Union election this year at my University. I am running for the role of VP Campus and Communications and in efforts to engage more students to get involved with the elections and vote I have started vlogging. So here is my first video.

There is and election?

This is the 400 word manifesto I have written which will be published in a print edition of The Verse, the university paper that I write for.

I am Sophie Cohen, a 3rd year English Language and Media Studies student. At University I have been a Course Rep and helped put forward student ideas to higher authorities when students didn’t have the confidence or platform to previously. I have worked at the SU reception on Falmer campus for the past 2 years and have been involved with lots of SU run events including Engagement Week, Elections and Freshtival. I am an avid writer and have been writing for the University online paper The Verse for the past year and a half, having been promoted to Entertainments Editor in the last few months.
A few outside University achievements include that of Young leader at my local scouts group and achieving Head Girl status in secondary school. Being a Young leader I received a lot of vital training that was also useful for other leadership roles and gained so much experience in terms of running events and working with people. I am an organised person and I am always dedicated to what I am focused on. I am friendly, trustworthy and dependable and feel those qualities are extremely useful for the VP Campus and Communications role.
My main goal is to increase student engagement and participation across all 5 of the Brighton University campuses. I have had an incredible student experience and feel it is imperative that students are not only comfortable within their learning environments but enjoy the time they spend on their campus. I want to make sure there are things to do and facilities available that students want to increase the engagement and to make students want to be on campus.
I want to push forward and support the Media Federation, which are the three key media outlets the SU has (run by students); The Verse, SU TV and Burst Radio. I want to encourage more students’ involvement in building these stations up to be prime communication tools for students.
Having lived in halls my first year at Brighton University, I also want to develop and enforce comfortable living in all halls of residence by making sure students are happy with where they are living and by listening and projecting the issues and voices of the students to where they need to be heard.
I hope that my enthusiasm comes across in all that I do with my campaign and urge you to vote full stop!
