The 'No Make Up Selfie' and its purpose? To create awareness for Cancer Research. Sounds like a good enough idea right? Nobody is having to do anything that causes them any danger, they simply donate money online, take a harmless make up free photograph of themselves, share it online and tag some friends to do the same. I think its a great idea, it is harmless, a little fun but its main point is to raise awareness of Cancer Research which it certainly has been doing...because it is all my Facebook news feed is talking about.
One thing that has truly saddened and frustrated me today is the amount of statuses and rants (I am talking hefty paragraphs) of people on Facebook completely slating girls that have taken these photographs. I have heard the likes of 'this has nothing to do with Cancer Research' and 'I know someone that has Cancer and this is a disgrace...' Quite frankly I think these comments are disgusting. I can understand the frustration of being reminded of loved ones who are ill or who have been ill, and if people post photographs with out saying they have donated their money and that we should do the same...but I think this tag is in no way a bad idea. It has been done to create awareness and it is sure working. It may not be a campaign run by Cancer Research UK but it sure is getting the word of the organisation out there and I really cannot complain about that.
I urge you all to donate and get involved.
