Self Care Sophie Style

I don't want this blog to just became a diary-esqe journal where I blab on too much about feelings so I do have some exciting posts planed for the next few months including an attempt of a recipe series *I have said it now...got to do it* But sometimes life is a poop and so for today I just wanted to throw out to the internet my top tips for Self Care.

I have been ill too much this Winter, more than I should have been and part of the reason is because I haven't looked after myself as much as I could have. All these 'shoulds' and 'coulds' have made me realise I need to tell the internet about how I look after myself (when I do it properly)

The Jar

So this is my jar (pictures above) this is by no means an original idea from my own brain, must have been something on pinterest a few years back - because this is my 3rd year of doing this. From January 1st of each year I have been putting notes in this jar of things that have happened or things people have said to me that have made me happy or proud. I then at the end of each year go through the jar and relive all those moments - sometimes when I am having a low day I like to have a sneak peek at what I have so far to cheer myself up.

You Do You
Make time for the things that make you...you. That might be gardening, painting, photography or even climbing; whatever you do that makes you happy and feel good make sure you set aside time to do that activity. For me, sometimes I need to be Angela, the mischievous sim who plans on filling her boss's office with balloons and wrapping bacon around everything, for a seriously long time (Yes I played sims 4 for a total of 15 hours this weekend big deal).

Food Things

Eat what makes you happy. If I am down and need a pick me up I usually go to The Big A (that is what I called Asda) and get me some supplies. Today's supplies included Pringles, Quavers, Kinder Chocolate, Smarties and a Sandwich (it is chicken and stuffing for anyone that ever feels they need to pick me up when I am feeling poop) It doesn't matter if your supplies are super healthy or super...unhealthy (I really didn't want fruit today) just get the things that you want. I am not planning on eating all of this today - I would end up in a food coma - but having said that...it doesn't matter if you scoff your face until nothing is left. Just enjoy doing it.

Watch Things
I promise Netfix is not sponsoring me (but holla) find you favourite TV shows, an obscure documentary or just some films you really love and get watching. Everyone needs a duvet day once in a while, whether you are watching from your laptop or on the television, games consoles etc ... cosy up, watch things and forget about everything else.

ZZZ & H20
'But I sleep everyday and I drink water' ... Do you though? Sometimes I need to just sleep, forget the world, forget hobbies, people get tired and they need to rest in bed and drink water. Lacking sleep and being dehydrated can make you really sick - promise me sometimes you will just have a super rest and try and drink 1-2 litres of water a day - yeh? awesome.

Plans
Making plans to do something can always be a good way of looking out for yourself, and it doesn't have to be something super ambitious or ridiculous; it can be something small like going to the cinema, going on a walk or trying out a new recipe. Or you could be totally ridiculous like me and book a holiday (woo) Not really ridiculous I have been thinking about going away by myself for a while - exciting - either way make a big or a little plan, just something for you look forward to.

So I would say those ones are my top tips, other things I like doing include walking (to nowhere in particular), taking photographs, tidying my house, lighting my favourite candles, turning my phone off (although I try not to do that too often because I live alone and I don't want people the think I am dead -_-) And there are other things that I want to either do more often or have a go at including knitting, reading, adult colouring, baths? (I don't like baths - everyone else seems to like baths, so maybe try that)

Either way, love yourself and look out for you.
